What is a range?
A range (or flat) is a market state in which an asset's price moves within a certain horizontal range, without forming new highs or lows. During such periods, the forces of buyers and sellers are approximately equal.
Most trend indicators (such as ADX or Moving Averages) give many false signals in a range.
How to identify a range?
- Price is squeezed between support and resistance levels.
- The ADX indicator is below level 20.
- Moving averages intertwine and go horizontally.
